Wedding Car TimelineHow Many Hours Do You Actually Need?

A realistic hour-by-hour breakdown of wedding car bookings in Sydney, the three common booking shapes, and the mistakes that cause couples to run over time.

Wedding Car Timeline — How Many Hours Do You Actually Need?

The most common question we get from Sydney couples isn't "which car?" — it's "how many hours do we book?" Under-book and you're watching the clock during photos. Over-book and you've paid for a car sitting idle.

Here's how the day actually runs.

The three booking shapes

1. Ceremony transfer only — 2 hours Pickup from the getting-ready location, drive to the ceremony, done. This is the minimum booking (2 hours) and suits couples whose reception is at the same venue as the ceremony.

2. Ceremony + photos + reception — 4 to 5 hours The most popular option. The car stays with you from the first pickup through the photo locations and drops you at the reception. This is what most Sydney weddings need.

3. Full day / as-directed — 6 to 8 hours Multiple pickups, a bridal party car as well as a hero car, regional venues, or a couple who wants the car on standby all day.

A realistic 4.5-hour timeline

TimeWhat's happening
1:00pmChauffeur arrives 15 min early at the getting-ready address
1:15pmDepart for ceremony (allow 1.5× your Google Maps estimate)
1:45pmArrive at ceremony, car waits
2:00pmCeremony begins
2:45pmCeremony ends, congratulations and group photos
3:15pmDepart for photo locations
3:30pm–5:00pmTwo or three photo stops with the car
5:00pmDepart for reception
5:30pmArrive at reception — booking ends

That's 4.5 hours from first pickup. Almost every couple who books 3 hours for this shape of day runs over.

Where the time actually goes

Five things eat the schedule, and none of them are driving:

  • Getting into the car in a dress. Budget 5–10 minutes, more for a structured gown. An SUV like the Range Rover Sport is genuinely easier than a low sedan.
  • Family photos after the ceremony. These always take 20 minutes longer than planned.
  • Parking at photo locations. Sydney's best spots (Mrs Macquarie's Chair, Barangaroo, Observatory Hill) have limited stopping — the car may need to circle.
  • Traffic across the Harbour Bridge or through the CBD on a Saturday afternoon.
  • The "one more shot" moment. Photographers always want one more.

Sydney-specific timing notes

  • CBD / The Rocks ceremonies: add 20 minutes for traffic and drop-off restrictions.
  • Eastern Suburbs: Bondi and Watsons Bay are slow on weekends — 30 minutes for what looks like a 15-minute drive.
  • Hunter Valley / Southern Highlands: these become full-day bookings with travel time in each direction.
  • Sunset photos: check the actual sunset time for your date and work backwards; in June, Sydney sunset is around 4:55pm.

How many cars?

  • Couple only: one hero car.
  • Couple + bridal party: hero car plus an LDV Mifa Luxe (up to 7 seats) for the party.
  • Large families: add a second people mover, or arrange shuttles for guests at regional venues.
